CYBER MONDAY? LEE MARVIN POINT BLANK!

Cyber Monday is December 2nd and in the spirit of such blatant internet promotion allow me to join the passing parade of shameless self-indulgence with the inclusion of Lee Marvin Point Blank. Yeah, I know the book came out more than six years ago, but it is still very much in print, in demand, and worthy of discovery by those who have yet to purchase it. Why is that you ask? Well, for one thing, as my publisher pointed out, it’s a perennial, not bound by fads or current events that fade in short order. For another, it’s available in several formats, each with its own appeal.

Released January, 2013, the above image is from the hardcover edition of LEE MARVIN POINT BLANK, still very much available.

First up is the hardcover. It remains the first definitive account of the life, work and legacy of one of the most important actors of the second half of the twentieth century. I spent nearly 20 years researching it and the result is 100 exclusive interviews of friends, family and co-workers, many rare never-before-seen photos, letters recounting his harrowing time in WWII and much, much more.  Within a year, the book was also anointed with several awards, such as winning the Bronze in Biography from the Independent Publisher Book Awards (“Ippy”) and being a finalist in Foreword Magazine’s Book of the Year Awards. Not bad for a first-time author, right?

Not long after the release of the hardcover, the Kindle became available via Amazon and the result was quite surprising. An enterprising publicist at the distributor, IPG (Independent Publishing Group), hustled the hell out of the e-book which ultimately made the top five on the coveted  New York Times Bestseller List, as well as the Wall Street Journal and Publisher’s Weekly.

One of the Kindle’s opening images, which was a NY Times best seller.

The following year, my publisher, Tim Schaffner of Schaffner Press, decided to up the ante with the publication of the paperback. He requested that I add some new material to the project….

I was of course pleasantly surprised not only by how well it turned out but also by the addition of several pages consisting of positive feedback from prominent individuals, such as fellow biographers Marshall Terrill (STEVE MCQUEEN: PORTRAIT OF A REBEL), Bill Krohn (HITCHCOCK AT WORK), Stefan Kanfer ( BOGART: TOUGH WITHOUT A GUN), Frank Thompson (NOTHING SACRED: THE CINEMA OF WILLIAM WELLMAN) and others.  Who could ask for more? Talk about an embarrassment of riches.
So, there you have it. My pitch to put LEE MARVIN POINT BLANK on your Cyber Monday holiday shopping list. I realize that regular readers of this blog, (if there are any) may have read this all before but since the key to good promotion is “Tell them what you know, tell them again and then tell them what you told them,” I leave it to one and all to make up their own minds….so what are you waiting for? Do you part for Cyber Monday and get your copy now.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

AMAZON REDUCED PRICES FOR LEE MARVIN POINT BLANK!

Amazon reduced prices on my book, Lee Marvin Point Blank. Don’t ask me why as I have no idea. I only noticed the pricing difference recently so I don’t know how long it’s been going on or how long it will last, for that matter.
I do know that my publisher, Tim Schaffner of Schaffner Press, notified me that the paperback is going back to the printer and that he was raising the prices slightly. Even with the price going up a dollar (again, I have no idea why), Amazon has still kept the buying prices on all formats extremely low. Bottom line because of Amazon reduced price, THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO GET YOUR COPY IN ANY OF THE THREE FORMATS! I don’t know how long it will last so it’s best to take advantage of it now. Heck, I didn’t know they even did such things for a title that been available for more than six years! Don’t just take my word for it, though. Check out the screen grabs I did below that make the point…..

Actual current price for the hardcover Amazon reduced prices by 50% off!

Despite the raised cover price, Amazon is still selling the paperback at 20% off.

The Kindle is also reduced almost 50%, Amazon reduced prices is insane!   🙂

As I said, I have no idea how Amazon reduced prices works and how they decide on the pricing that they do. If I knew that, I’d be working for Jeff Bezos. Since I don’t (nor want to, actually) I can only guess it’s based on ongoing sales which, if true, makes me happy. In the mean time, I again suggest you take full advantage of this great discount as a title this old can’t be on discount long and as the old adage goes, once it’s gone, it is gone!

BACK TO THE PRINTER FOR LEE MARVIN POINT BLANK!

Back to the printer…for Lee Marvin Point Blank? That’s the case, at least according to my publisher, Tim Schaffner. I hadn’t spoken to him in a while and a recent e-mailing enlightened me to this fact.
Allow me to explain. We were in brief communication over some tax form snare when I happened to ask him how things are going otherwise. He answered in the affirmative and then nonchalantly added that the paperback is going back to the printer for yet another print run. Shocked, “What prompted this?” says I. His answer: “That’s easy. The paperback has sold out! Congrats!”
I of course had no idea! I do know the book has been the bestseller in his stable for some time but it being more than 5 year since the book came out (4 years for the paperback) I didn’t know the paperback had still been selling so well. How cool is that?

I can tell you, however, that there are some key differences to the paperback versus the hardcover. There is additional content, some great review quotes, and more….

Oh, yeah there’s one more tiny difference. The hardcover came out in 2013 and both of my parents had passed by then. Also, Lee’s son, Christopher, asked if I’d also be willing to add his sister, Claudia Marvin to the dedication. Sadly, I never did get to meet her as she died of liver disease before the book came out. How could I refuse Christopher, who had been so amazingly helpful to my work?
When the paperback was ready to come out I had to make an additional change to the dedication with the publisher’s permission…..

Revised dedication to the paperback.
