PICTURES FROM CHRISTOPHER MARVIN

In the course of putting together Lee Marvin Point Blank, especially the final stages, the most enjoyable, and in some ways the most difficult part, was choosing what pictures to use. It was truly an embarrassment of riches to choose from as I had amassed quite a collection of images and graphic material over the years from several generous sources. Almost all of the images seen on the blog are examples of what did not make the cut for one reason or another but are finally seeing the light of day here. One of the best sources was Lee’s son, Christopher, who, after much cajoling, allowed me to copy some of those images. As a lasting tribute to him I include some of the ones that didn’t quite make the cut but can see below:

The last time the entire Marvin family reunited. Pictured here at Cynthia’s 1982 wedding are (L-R) Christopher Lamont Marvin, his sister Courtenay Lee Marvin, Lee Marvin, Cynthia Louise Marvin Michaels, Betty Marvin, and youngest of the four siblings, Claudia Leslie Marvin.

Christopher is shown visiting his father at his Tucson, Arizona home in the late 70s.

Helping his father work the cacti Lee was so proud of, Christopher poses with him on his dad’s property. Just before the picture was snapped, According to Christopher, Lee grabbed the shovel and said, “Give me that! Let everybody think I was the one working.”

  1. My Favourite Actor and character with charisma he had plenty of. I think he was one of those rare breeds of a self-made man. I am thinking also that his heart troubles came on after his intestinal surgery – something went wrong causing the flu like symptoms – I do not think he should have died at such a young age still regardless of personal stresses. So unfair –

  2. Just finished reading the book and really enjoy seeing these additional photos. Now I want to go watch, rent or buy all the Lee Marvin movies I can find. Must have seen Cat Ballou at least ten times. What a life and so sorry to find out his son Christopher died recently as well. Both gone too soon

  3. Excellent….would like to ask…do you know cause of death for his daughter Claudia? Was sad to see 2 of his children die so young as he did…

    Thanks
    EB

    • Yes, I do, EB. Sadly, she died of liver disease just before my book was about to go to press. Consequently, I was unable to interview her. Christopher asked me if I would be wiling to dedicate the book to her and naturally I wholeheartedly agreed.

    • I met Claudia in a bar in the city of Orange. She perked up when I told her I graduated from a high school in the Marshall Islands. Same Islands her father was on…I also told her he was one of my favorite actors, she perked up again when I told her I liked his singing…I also met Obama in 1982 on Oahu
